If it has micro USB say like on a Tablet, then one of those micro USB ports may be able to sense when pin 4 has been shorted to the 5th pin in the housing of those little cables, or at the unit end. like say Printer often used Type B USB and is usually considered a Device. it's along the lines of, if it receives an input but doesn't provides an output. so the unit you connected it to, is either having power provided or being talked TO. The USB B type connector is usually indicating that the thing you plug it into is a Device.

The MIDI does not need to come into the fast track to work with pro tools. Just plug both usb devices into your computer. At this point, I feel i may just have to buy a cheap 88 key controller to be able to work with MIDI and VSTs in Protools.What you're describing does not exist, nor is it required.

This worked well enough when plugging directly into my computer and working with other DAWs like Logic and FL studio, but the fast track pro interface needed for protools doesnt have any USB inputs. Can anyone tell me if such a thing already exists? Or, would anyone be interested in building such a thing, and/or even productizing it? It seems to me that there would be quite a demand for such a simple connector/adapter. And, I don't want to have to use or bring a Focusrite or the like, much less a computer. I don't need to get such conventional keyboards into the computer instead, I just want to be able to control other conventional keyboards off of a keyboard (e.g., the PX160) that has the USB connector. I have only found connectors/adapters that allow ordinary DIN-style MIDI OUT connectors to be converted to USB so those DIN-style keyboards can easily get into the computer.

I am considering buying a Casio PX160, which only has a MIDI via USB type of connector, and I want to control other keyboards (with standard DIN-style MIDI IN) off the PX160.
